Penn State Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State's mascot is the Nittany Lion, a representation of a type of mountain lion that once roamed what is now University Park, and refers to the local Mount Nittany, which overlooks the university. The mascot was created in 1907, while on a 1904 trip to Princeton University. An early mascot was "Old Coaly", a mule that hauled stone for the original Old Main building (completed in 1863 and demolished in 1929).

Penn State joined the Big Ten conference in 1993. The school's official colors, now blue and white, were originally black and dark pink.

Stadium History - Beaver Stadium has an official seating capacity of 106,572, making it currently the second largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere and the fourth largest in the world. Until 1893, Penn State teams participated in sporting events on Old Main lawn. Beaver Field, a 500-seat structure was the first permanent home for Penn State's football team. In 1909, New Beaver Field opened roughly in the current location of the Nittany Parking deck. It served as Penn State's stadium until 1960, when the entire 30,000 seat stadium was dismantled and moved to the east end of campus, reassembled and expanded to 46,284 seats—the lower half of the current facility—and dubbed Beaver Stadium.

This stadium list is under construction.
